Movement Trails was founded with a strong passion for community resilience & wellness through natural surface trail experiences. We believe trails provide a gateway to building a resilient foundation of the individual through the great outdoors. Trails offer infrastructure that supports physical wellness. They also support mental and spiritual wellness. This serves as a foundation for communities facing modern challenges in the 21st century.
Founder & Chief Visionary Officer Chris Spargen began building trails in 2016 in his hometown of Ashland, Nebraska. With his young son along for the ride, he developed a unique trail network called OxBow Trail System.
OxBow satisfied a community need for more progressive bike park features. It introduced many first features for the Eastern Nebraska & Western Iowa Trails Have Our Respect (THOR) network. This began a movement that grew ridership and elevated local skills.
Chris began serving on the THOR Board of Directors in 2018 and working on enhancing and reviving old trails at Platte River State Park, a 5.5 mile trail system in a park ripe with an abundance of potential. In 2020, Chris stepped into the Board President role for THOR. He designed a master plan for Platte River State Park. This was done with coordination from the trail leader and key stakeholders in Nebraska Game & Parks. This master plan tapped the potential of the park. Many thousands of hours of volunteer coordination were devoted to it. As a result, it became the most popular trail system in the THOR network by 2022. Platte River State Park now features over 22 miles of diverse trails. These range from beginner family-friendly trails to double black diamond expert trails with popular features.
Chris has exercised this same concept at Ponca State Park and Louisville Community Trails. He collaborates with THOR leadership and community stakeholders. Together, they bring the vision of more trails to communities in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa into professional planning, design, and construction phases. Chris has pioneered visions of reviving the Historical OxBow Trail network. This network connects the Missouri River from Plattsmouth, Nebraska, to Ceresco, Nebraska. This idea is in the visioning phase. It will advance with user growth and supporting trail systems in the Platte River Valley network.
Chris is driven by his family, including 4 children. He has a strong passion to see future generations connecting with their fellow humankind outdoors. He wants them off devices in isolation. In his spare time, you’ll find him riding with his family or friends. He enjoys sharing stories over whole, natural food. He also loves adventuring for a long ride to catch some R&R.
Co-Founder & Chief Financial Officer Brent Fullmer began building trails in 2020. He added a trail to the community of Blair, Nebraska. This trail sports 5 miles of the first natural surface trails in town. Brent joined the THOR Board of Directors shortly after. He chaired the Build Committee and brought structure to the routine organizational tasks for trail development in the THOR ecosystem. Brent has teamed up with Chris. Together with other THOR Trail Champions, they bring best-practice sustainable trail building techniques to the THOR trail network.
Brent is driven by a passion for learning and teaching. He coaches NICA kids on the fundamentals of mountain biking. He also teaches the necessary skills to lay out and build trails. Spreading the outdoor message through trails gets him up in the morning!
